give it some more piston to wall, little extra rod and main bearing, rod side to side, increase valve to guide, let a little more oil flow through, run some good liners run more oil in pan and hammer down

Can someone explain this to me. So you guys that have done it have opened your sleeve up to 0.018"- 0.020" clearance so I have been told. What do you do with the piston rings because going bigger changes the gap. Do you then go to special rings? We are looking at doing it on a twin turbo Allis diesel with a cast Allis pistons. Forged expands more than cast so I am curious on where to put the clearance at. Also it was said above to put more clearance in valve guides and main bearings?

Any advice would be appreciated.

We don't run dry block, but Total Seal end gap recommendations change based on engine application. In general the suggested gap increases by .002-.003" from a mild application to a high heat/race application. For an example say you are going to add .005" extra piston to sleeve clearance. If you are already running .007" per inch of bore (4.625 bore * .007 = .032" gap), you may want to increase it to (4.630 * .009 = .042").

If you only enlarge the sleeve by .005" and use the same rings, the ring gap will increase by 3.14 * .005, or about .015", giving you a gap of .047". This may or may not be a little too loose, but I know there have been studies that found ring gap isn't as critical as some builders think. At 4.630" bore an extra .010" of gap is only something like 0.2% if my math is right.

Just my thoughts.
