Ag v.s. truck manifold, DT 466 July 28, 2015 01:57AM
Any one have egt problems with truck intake manifolds? We changed to truck manifold and #5 and #6 are 400 degrees colder than the front four. New injectors, fresh rebuild on engine. Could water be ponding in the rear of the intake? and if so, what do you do to correct the problem? This is a 466,three thousand rpm hot farm IH. Help please.

Make sure u have 6" of straight pipe before u connect to manifold

Got about a foot of straight up above manifold, then goes forward to the header panel and does a 180 back around to the charger. Poor mans intercooler, this is legal in our class.

Do you run water injection in the cross over pipe going into the manifold? If so this is more than likely your problem

Yes,we inject water right after the charger into the cross over pipe, but we never had this problem with the tractor style manifold.

Yeah we recently had issues with ours and changed the water spray back towards/against the air flow and it fixed our issue. Maybe worth a try.

Ours spray straight across into each other, three nozzle set up.

Anyone have any pics of there crossover pipe setup with the truck manifold

Have put the tractor manifold back on, plan on pulling tonight. I will know tomorrow after we download tha data logger if the manifolds are the problem. Will try to poast a picture with tractor manifold, same cross over works on both.

We tried the truck manifold years ago, spent the entire summer fooling around with it, could not understand why at about 180 feet of so tractor would fall away, just die. We thought that the bigger manifold would be a better way to go! WRONG! It was explained to me that the bigger, in my case, meant that the exhaust was losing energy. Energy is what turns the turbo, when I needed the power, at about 180 feet, the energy in the exhaust was not there, hence the tractor would fall on its face. Put stock manifold back on, problem solved.

Ya I had the same problem but was because it was with a 3lm, no problem with 3x3 charger, so it depends on charger size.

We put the tractor manifold back on and tried it, #5 and #6 still 400 degrees colder than the front four. Gonna go back and check the valve lash,if that's ok, I wonder if it could be the back two plungers in the injection pump, p-7000 bosh. ???????????????

It's the way your water is going into the manifold. Take it out and see your temps even out if they do its the water. Would be willing to bet it is

Think I found the problem, stay tuned, might be a week or so,got a couple other issues to work on.
