Ford 8600 Engine

Anyone ever put a stock turbo setup from a 9600 on a 8600? I know that M&W offered an aftermarket option but I was wanting to go the other route if at all possible. I've read that the engine in the 8600 came with more compression than the 9600 and was wondering if this could present a problem later on down the road. Tractor will mostly be used for pulling in a local "Farm Stock" class.
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

The 8600 pistons will have more compression because it was naturally aspirated from the factory. I have a 8600 that has the m & w setup on it but I see no reason why the 9600 manifold and turbo setup wouldn't work. You will have to get an oil supply line ran but I believe the engine is already tapped for that. There went many differences between the 86 and 9600. I've ran mine for 12 or 13 years and haven't had an issue with the turbo setup with the higher compression pistons. I still run the Simms pump(Had work done to it), different injectors, different fuel lines, and a 3lm-466 turbo. Need to fire ring the block or head because of too much heat. Other than that I've been happy with mine. |

Yeah mine already has the M&W setup as well, so the oil supply line is already there. I know the M&W turbo is a little smaller than a stock turbo but wasn't sure if just it could be swapped with little to no trouble. Was swapping to the 3lm-466 turbo a pain or rather simple? I already have larger tips on my injectors, any idea on up-sizing the lines? Columbus Diesel or somewhere like that? |

.093 line is what I'm running. Got them From Jolliff Diesel Service in Elnora, IN. He has a website to get info on them. I'm sure Columbus Diesel will work too. Putting the 3lm-466 turbo was a little time consuming. I just pull mine and I don't do anything else with it. I had to remove the air breather completely to fit it under the hood. If you have the time you might be able to make it work with the air cleaner under there. I also had to use an elbow and spacer from IH. |

Sounds good....thanks. I think to stay "Farm stock" I may have to go a different route. To many people nosing around under the hood lol. Would probably notice it wasn't the factory style turbo.
Thanks |

I have a custom "little" Holset that was made for this. Is bigger than the stock 3LD but smaller than a 3LM and custom made for this setup. It will come alive way before the 3LM will. I may sell it at the end of the year but not for less than 1k. Have run it on several different 401 to 456 setups with excellent results. |

I have my old set up I would be willing to sell price. Have either a tw5 exhaust manifold or the 9600 manifold and riser. Exhaust pipe to work with the 8600 exhaust hole with a holset h1c 18.5 exhaust housing and 56mm inducer. Works great, going to a different engine so I wont be needing that stuff anymore.
