8 speed powershift August 10, 2015 03:37PM
Was wondering if anyone has any input on what's wrong with my powershift.
Was pulling the other night and a violent slam came from the transmission and now in gears 3-6 and reverse 3-4 if you let the clutch out all the way it seems like it binds up and will choke themotor to death. What did i wreck? Thanks morgans

How much horsepower is your engine producing? I've been told by many pullers that powershifts are great for farming but not for pulling. Once start making so much power, the powershift won't hold up anymore.

My neighbor burnt up the input drive pack on a 4640 ps pulling large silage wagons and starting in too high of gear. Like 5th. It is probably the input clutch set low to high because of the shift lag between gears 4 to 5 dropping one clutch pack and picking up the other clutch pack. Hook a set of gauges to the test ports and youll soon find out.

Jordan i would call Chuck Siler at 715-643-3919. He knows those powershifts well and will probably loan the gauges to you to test it. I hope you can resolve your problems!

Your C1 clutch is welded together and when in gears 3-6 it trying to engage both at the same time. That is why it works in 1-2 when C1 is engaged and 7-8 when both are engaged. Have a Dealer Print you out a element engagement chart and you will see what i am talking about.
