I was wondering who builds the head for a 400 series ih going to be run on a 640 cid motor at 2600 rpm and which head is the best to start with |

Don't allow yourself to get ho$ed on a big dollar hogged out head for this application - @ 2600 you are going to need less than 235 cfm on the intake and in the 215 range on the exhaust.. max, @ 28" - that's not to far ahead of what a truck head will flow stock. Serious porting isn't needed, the focus should be on the valve job, valves and an inch above the seat. Get the exhaust port quiet. If you go with a big head you're gonna have a pig on your hands that won't recover and will nose over hard when pulled down. Spend your money in the right place and call Jones or Bullet for the cam AFTER the head is done and flow #'s, port cross sectional area and velocity #'s are available. If your head guy can't give you those he's not a head guy.. if your cam guy isn't asking for that information he's not the right guy either.. |
