466ci case August 30, 2015 04:37AM
Looking in to building a tractor was wondering if was feasible to build a case motor at 466ci. Also was wondering if it would be competitive against other brands. I would like to build something other than the traditional red n green. But was told case heads hold them back was just looking for advice thanks

Nothing wrong with the heads especially at that cubic inch. 510 cubic inch is better to work with, will take some tuning but you canmake it competitive.

allen powell runs one with battle of the bluegrass hot farm in Kentucky and runs good

I was told I would need around 1000hp to be competitive is that achievable at 3500rpm.

I was a red man for years, wanted something different, built a case,a good one,was very competitive for a few years, kept updating, would I build another case ? absolutely not,no way.with the vast amount of aftermarket parts both new and used id build a ih,youll spend way more TRYING to get a case to compete

Patches, I'm curious how you figure that you'll have to spend way more? I run a case in a 540 limited turbo class & to hear the red, green & blue guys talk I think I have spent less !? All the colors will spend the same amount on the add on parts, the case requires no "beefing" up of the transmission or rearend just needle them like everyone else needs to. Now I will admit that building a 466 case would be a bit more of a pain than a red, green or blue one but since most guys already want to run billet pistons just get the bore made to what you want & you're there.

Call Brian Scott Prarie Performance, he built one last year that runs real good, right at 1000 hp.

My guess it wouldn't be too difficult to bore a 451 to get 466. I am not 100% positive but I believe the 451 like most Case blocks has a cast iron camshaft. So it would be best to get a billet cam made for it or even a steel cam. I've talked to a man that builds and deals with Super Farms all the time and the cost he gave me to build a competive Case is around the same price it would be to build or buy a turn key competitive IH 1066 or JD. Just make sure you know what you may have to do when it comes to dealing with the head, cam, etc.
