Converting p 3000 to self contained oil

Can I change my p3000 front bearing retainer myself or is it a pump shop job?
What other changes are ness? Thanks |

Depending on what style of bearing plate you have you may need only to install a seal in the plate you currently have. If you need to change bearing plates then camshaft endplay will need to be reset. This is best accomplished by inserting the tappet holding tools to unload spring pressure from the camshaft. You will need to plug the oil feed inlet and drill and tap the bottom plate for an oil drain. You could also drain out of the supply pump block off plate if you have one. Will also need a cap or plug on the governor housing for an oil fill point. |

So if I removed my bearing plate, welded shut the holes and re installed it, end play should be the same. I've already installed fill and drains |

Yes. Weld or epoxy the holes closed and install a seal around the camshaft. As long as this is done with the the plate off of your pump end play will not change. |

Columbus recommends I pint of 50 weight mixed with 1 pint of lucas oil treatment the thick stuff. change every 8 runs. |
