Cummins or IH crank in JD block

gunna build a puller on a budget. I'm a john Deere man myself but I want big cubes.... Getting a custom built crank Is a little on the pricey side no matter how you look at it. the big restriction on the JD 466 is the stroke. Machine shop says they have heard of putting an 8.3l Cummins crank in the jd block and I have heard of putting a IH crank being used in a jd block (I'm assuming DT466) who has done this and how much of a pain is it either one I'm open to suggestions. thanks for the info and the space. If I cant come up with anything I guess im going RED |

now I am confused......On tractor data if you look up IH 5488 it says the stroke is 5.35in but everything else is sayin 4.68in stroke for the dt466 engine so what the heck I am confused were the tractor engines different. I am looking for the the big stroke crank.help |

Forged steel

5488 tractor DT-466 is 5.35" stroke with a 4.30" bore. The more modern MaxForce DT466 IH truck engine is 4.68" stroke with a 4.59" bore. |

How does the cummins crank work in a Deere . Rear main seal , thrust bearing & front nose . What would be the max stroke you could get . Is it cheaper than stroking a Deere crank ? Is it stronger ? |

Johnnys cummins

You have to have block machined to change the thrust location.
Cummins stroke is 5.312 and swings in the block without too much work. also grinding the rod journal down a couple thousands accepts a .010 under jd bearing. Our machine shop ground the rear hub down to jd size so we could use stock jd rear seal and drilled and tapped for jd flywheel bolt pattern. put jd crank gear on of course. But the nose we just had to leave stock.also have to use external oil pump. Total cost for crank and machine work will be $3500-$4000. This is with cummins main bearings and John deere rod bearings. |

Unless you are set on a 466 block, Get a JD 8.1 block and put a 9.0 liter crank in it, bolts right in |
