4020 Ring & Pinion in 4010 rear October 13, 2015 02:43AM
What kind of modifications does it take to get a 4020 pinion shaft into a 4010 gear case? Anybody have a drawing of the modifications?
Thanks

Requires bearing journal on the pinion end of shaft to be turned down to fit original 4010 bearing. Opposite/front end of shaft has to be machined shorter. I chose to use a shorter shaft from a 4230 (with same ratio as 4020) and only machine work was to cut down the pinion end bearing journal and use a short spacer at the opposite /retaining end of shaft to retain front bearing. Allot less machine work required. Custom three speed does not use snap ring groves so their location is not important/concern. DW.
