LLSS Ratio with 30.5's October 19, 2015 07:43AM
What are you guys that are running 30.5's running for ratios? Mostly interested in alcohol burners. I was leaning towards 22:1 and then 1 under and 1 over.

If I remember correctly, that should be in the ball park. I posted the same question about a year ago. You may be able to do a search and the thread will come up.

In my opinion, I wouldn't do a 1% over/under (if that is what your meaning of 1 under an d1 over is). I don't think anyone has a trans/gearing set up for that ready. My experience has been 5% over/under will get you a point on your final. i.e. 5% over on 22:1 direct will get you approximately 23:1. That is an "ish" figure.

Good luck

I actually meant "1 point" over and 1 under, as in 21, 22, 23. I didn't word it well and I apologize.

Those are some good numbers I have a 22 and 23 and run the 22 90 percent of the time

I am assuming diesels are running a little bit faster? 19/20ish?

Re: LLSS Ratio with 30.5's October 20, 2015 02:12AM
Most are in the neighborhood of 1400 at 6000 lbs, diesel run a gear that is usually an 18 or 19 to 1 ratio

Diesels with a 470-3.0 maf or 3.6 smooth bore make between 1250-1450 hp diesel run any where from an 18.1-22.1 alkys make between 1300-1500 hp run from a 21.2-24.1 all at 6000 pounds have had one of each currently finishing a tg210 ford diesel 470 3.6

Hey Carl,
What kind of horsepower are some of these LLSS running, and at what weight? I thought we run fairly well with our single engine modified at 5,800 lbs. I figured our engine was just at or slightly over 1,000 horsepower, but I couldn't pull much more than a 43 to 1. I'm just asking some questions here to educate myself.

How about with 24.5x32's? Or is there not much difference?

Re: LLSS Ratio with 30.5's October 21, 2015 02:56AM
Not much difference, depending on track,a friend of mine ran 24.5s all summer in a 19.1 gear, very lil difference in his 30.5s.

Charlie,

I am hearing anywhere from 900 to 1300 depending on who you are talking to.

I know where you are going with the question and I am not real certain but I have a theory. The average RPM of your mods is around 8k or so and the RPM of the LLSS class (dependent on combination) that I am hearing guys pass around is anywhere between 3700 to 6000. So your mod class is using the top end HP of the NA automotive motor so the slower gear seems to be needed to spin the tires. The turbo Ag motors appear to be using the significant mid-range torque they are creating to turn the taller gear.

I may be all wet with that but that is my theory, the hp is about the same range but the torque curve is different.

Carl,
No, I think you're on track. I never thought about it from that vantage point. It would probably relate to very similar MPH on the track between the LLSS and the light single N/A engine modifieds. I am sure that most of the LLSS produce higher horsepower and torque numbers than a modifieds N/A engines, and definitely at a lower RPM..
