Deutz 9006 (Deutzilla, Sasha and others) May 11, 2009 10:45AM
Hi all,

I got a line on a 9006 for cheap money. How are they as a puller? Is it fairly easy to build up for a hot farm type class? I assume the engine is the same as the 130-06. Minus the A-pump and turbo? What is a fair condition 9006 worth? Want to get into pulling reasonably and blow black smoke while surprising the competition. But I don't want a Deere or a Binder. Sasha or deutzilla any input?

Friends of mine run a rather "simple" 9006 hot farm, and that one has a 912 Deutz engine in (short stroke).

They simply put on a HX 40 Holset and an A-Pump that only feeds 280 ccs, no water, no intercooler. Runs good for what it is and has a surprisingly good low end tourque, which you wouldn't expect from a little engine like that.

They are now working on a 913 engine with a stroker crank of 132mm ( the 912 is 120mm and the 913 comes stock with 125mm), steel liners in the jugs and MAN pistons, which gets them to about 6.9 liters (the 912 is 5.4).

I believe the 90-06 rear is more or less the same as the 10-06 but I think the tranny is splash lubricated so you can simply remove all the hydraulics of the top if so desired, am sure others will have more info then me, good luck!

Check the for sale section, Little Angry (Anderson, I believe) has a listing, and a wealth of deutz knowledge. Major issues with 9006 are limited space to build cubes, is the short stroke model, 345 cu in, compared to 372 or so in stroker, many organizations do not allow alum heads, stock on a deutz, Hawthorn has built one two and three charger tractors, and they know that it takes to get to 410 cubes, and the expense involved. Sasha has seen a 430+ cubic inch model 913, and it had billet jugs--very radical. Plus side, no water, few gaskets, can get light easily. Trans will need assistance to live with significant hp. A rat 130 06 could be a better toy for farm stock pulling, and could get to a a hp per cube without a second mortgage. But so can a 466 ih, 451/504 case, 466 deere or 531/619 6030, so you have to chose you gear, balance and class to be competitive, even at the local level. Check out ytmag.com for a picture of Killin' Time, on the tractor photo section, Deutz, a good looking 130 06 farm stock puller that was still stock appearing and with stock cubes.

Thanks guys for the info. I think i will keep searching for a 13006 instead. Seems like it would be cheaper to get significant horsepower increases. Shoe string budget and only going hot farm for now. So i have nothing but time to search i am not in a rush.

The 130 and the 90 have the same 912 engine in them. The 130 engine is heavier because it is turbocharged and has a bigger rod journal so the 90 would probably be a better engine for you to use. The 80 has the lighter planetaries but the 90's are just fine. For farm stock the tran. will work but the input shaft kind of depends on your speeds. You can talk to dr.duetz.com and he can tell you more. I think that if you could get the 90 cheap enough you could have a lot of fun with it.

Doesn't matter what model of tractor you use.Start with a 912 turboed block and depending on what cubic inch you want and how haevy you want it mismatch with some 913 stuff in it and it don't matter what model you start with.Thats kinda inmaterial what model you start with.Theres heavier stuff to put in then the 912 rods!

13006 has a slower ring and pinion then the 8006.There are ways of getting more stroke for cheap and not have any welding done if you use the right crank.Doesn't matter what model you go with the trans will still give you problems but will last for you up to around 500 horse. Also it is not a splash transmission. But remove the lines and the splash system will work for pulling.

Don't ask me anything. All I do is drive it and a little jug replacment, which I am getting better at!!!!

Call drdeutz.com and ask him. But don't keep him too long on the phone as he is redoing the wifes tractor and it need to be in New York by sunday June 7th.

Since the 913 is a better series motor, which of the DX series have them and would make a good puller. DX110 120? How are the trannys in them still get into trouble at 500+ horse? Thanks for enlightening me. I am still looking for a tractor at a good price.

Re: Deutz 9006 (Deutzilla, Sasha and others) May 22, 2009 01:18AM
The DX series won't hold up farming!Well yes they do if used right. They won't hold up at all with stock parts in on the track. The 06 tranny is still the toughest one to use.
