Will a 4000 transmission work for a 360 ci, 3000 rpm,6000lb p-pump class? Whats the ratio in 8th? |

8th gear is 21.42:1. You will twist off the input shaft eventually. You would need to hollow out the trans and install a gearbox if you want it to live. You may be able to redesign the input shaft and get some heavier gears. I recommend a 5000 its stronger and has some better gear options though its a little heavier. |

I don't know for sure but I doubt more than 500lb. ring and pinion is the same weight and most of the gears are the same so the trans gears are the same. the trans case is for sure heavier and the axle center section is heavier for a 5000 over a 4000. the trumpet housings are about the same. 5000 and 7000 are the same, 5000 have straight cut gears and roller bearings and 7000 have helical cut gears and tapered roller bearings. |
