White 2-70 December 03, 2015 08:56AM
Would a white 2-70 make a good pulling tractor? This would be my first "super stock" project. It has a 283 diesel in it. Just wondering if the rear ends hold up, and how light you can get the tractor. I'm not sure if I would build the 283 or find a Cummins for it. Has anyone been there or done that before?

If you're thinking lite limited super then it would be best to start with a 5.9 but a 310 can run strong if built right. What fuel? What rules/club?

Ct state tractor. It's a diesel. I can run a turbo and water injection. Pretty much to for rules

Ours weighs around 5600 with me on the seat (230.) We run a 5.9 cummins with a square tube frame 18.4x38 on steel wheels, and the heavy factory cast 55 series grill. We have tore up road gear once pulling in light pro stock and llss classes.

How many horse is your tractor? How bad was it to drop a Cummins in it?
Thanks

Follow the oliver tractor facebook page. Brad Maibach is showing his steps on repowering 5.9 in oliver cast tub. He has started producing parts for re power olivers

Brad would definitely be the guy to talk to about doing it with the factory tub. We built frame rails out of square tubing. Guessing we are somewhere between 4-700 depending on what setup we are running. (We usually run 3200rpm but have run open rpm classes also.)

Brad has a 5.9 in his 1655 which would be a very similar frame to a 2-70. Will take a little grinder work but it will fit. We have our 1850 down to less than 7500 with a factory cast grill and cast frame still intact. We are making 4 digit power with the 5.9 and no rear end issues so far. Brad is an excellent recourse for a project like this and is always willing to help.

Im thinking a 5.9 will bolt right in place. Ive got a 2-155 and a 8.3 fit right in no ajustments.
