6 cylinder CAT engines used in pulling
|
Was talking today with someone and he asked me if I knew tractors who used CAT engines in pulling.
Since I come over from the Netherlands once a year and probably know a couple. I answered him the only one I know is the Silver Bullet from the Lustiks and maybe some semi's. His reply was he was looking for a 6 cylinder CAT engine. Then I told him probably only the semi's run a 6 cylinder CAT engine and told him Jacked Up could use such an engine. Can anyone in the USA help me on this matter? |

No 6 cylinder Cat engines were originally used in Ag tractors. The 3208 V8 Cat engine was used in Olivers and Whites. Yes, the Semi Trucks used Cat 6s. The 3406 Cat was used for many years in Trucks and is a Great engine! |

No Cat six cylinder engines used in two wheel drive tractors. The White 4-275 used one though. Not sure if if you want to count the Cat Challengers or not. |

The rubber tire Challengers of the early 2000s on all use Sisu or Cat rebranded Perkins engines. You have to get into the tracked versions to get a Cat engine. |

Ok so what small front tire farm tractor had the 903 cummins in it? I don't see the difference in a articulating tractor and a mfwd. They are both agricultural. |

Thanks!!!
Much appreciated! |

Another argument, but for the sake of said argument, if we accept a rule stating that the engine needs to be in the same location forward of the rear axle as stock, then I could propose the 903 powered tractors should have the engine 23 feet in front of the axle.
That's how muddled this has gotten. |

Component is 60". You're not going to be using stock rearend.
Just saying. But seriously, why is the 903 allowed in pulling? |

903 was the replacement engine for the 1468 engine |

555 maybe. 903 I doubt. What is your source for this? |

PPL book bottom of page 23. I'll give you that. Now go to page 22 #1. Where does the supercession precedent take hold? Especially if you cover it with a Steiger hood?
What a mess... |

Besides the steiger mentioned above, Case IH 9170 had a 3406 as a factory optional motor, and since the 619 is a 4wd specific engine the 3406 has to be legal as well, at least for the red tractors. |

531 and the 619 are basically the same block. Like comparing the 414 to the 468 truck block. Please tell me that's not the loop hole the 903 is legal in. |

Not quite the same comparison, you could get the big lifter bore 467 block in a 2wd tractor (5288 and 5488) which is the same block as the 468 used in trucks. There are many IH tractor pulling engines out there that still have the IH cast in the block that are the late 467. Not saying that creates a loophole for the 903 but if you strictly look at what was offered from the factory, you absolutely can say that the 3406 cat is legal since it is a 4wd tractor motor (for CaseIH) just like the 619 is for John Deere tractors. |

The loophole with the 619 is that the 619 crank will swing in the 531 block........therefore making the 619 a true replacement.
I don't think the 903 crank swings in the IH 466/67/68 block. |

Finally found some valuable info. www.bigtractor power.com
'83 to '85 Steiger Panther IV offered 3 engines - Cummins NT 855, Cat 3406 and the new Komatsu SA6D-125. I, too, still have a hard time understanding how an articulated tractor engine is allowed in the two wheel drive Super Stock Open class. |

the 903 tractors should atleast have massey tin work they atleast used the engine in the 4800"s caseih never did |

White 4-270 is a Cat 3306. Totally different engine than a 3406. However, the 3306 could potentially be a viable option for the SSO/ULSS class. Engine weight will be a factor to consider. Take a lot of $$ to develop it though. |
