Starting a LPS/SF Build December 30, 2015 08:44AM
Looking to get into pulling again, but only have experience with stock pulling. Looking to run the Limited Pro Stock/Super Farm class ran by Full Pull Productions. The class weights are 8700# limited to 540 engine for LPS, and 9500# limited to 640 engine for SF. I'm leaning toward SF. Just wondered some opinions on which tractor would be a good baseline to start with. I've had a few people tell me to go with a 1066. My only requirement is that it has to be red, that's all that will ever be on our farm. Other than that I would appreciate any input or suggestions any of you with experience may have. Thanks guys.

A few things you might want to consider.
The red ones are pretty hard to beat at 540. Most just run stock 466 crank and 4 5/8 bore. From there you can go long rod, short rod, deck plate, no deck plate, etc...
At 640 you need at least 5.750 crank which means stroking stock one or going billet. SF is all about torque so they are pretty rough on stroked (welded up) cranks.
Both will need girdle on bottom end so that's mood point.
Fuel and air basically mood point. Although SF turbo a lot smaller they are pricey.
Both will need tranny and rear reworked.
As far as style most run between 706 and 1066 rears so you can buy a junker with straight tin or buy rear tranny buy or build frame and hang whatever style tin you want.

Just build one. U can buy everything under the sun for ih and jd just practically have to assemble it. Then u have what u want and not changing things after u buy it. We bought one and after looking at it they are easy to build. The engine is the hardest to do trying to figure out all u need and the machine work on block and heads

If dead set on building one I'd go to a pull like Gordyville and take a lot of pictures in the pits.

We have a chassis that we used for SF, it is a 1066, all you would have to do is drop a motor in it.

Just put one on pulloff for sale page.Turn key ready to hook MX 255 sheet metal on 1066 rear end.

You'll have to put a new cage on it first thing to pull with Rick. Finish the motor to either 540 or 640.... New Fuel and Air. Buy a rolling chassis or buy one already built to what you want. Honestly I look back, I wish I would have bought one built would have been cheaper!

There was a John Deere in WV years back called the Hunter, it was a strong runner. Don't know what ever happened to it.

NTPA approved 3 bar cage, new pic on for sale page . 531cu in is just fine in the 540 class.
