I have looked in the search section about building a ford for pulling a to hot to farm class I see several people talking about using a genisis or puting a 7.8 in a tractor. What I am wondering if you could put a 7.8 crank in a 401 block ? |

Yeah you can with a LOT of work. I mean A LOT but it can be done.
I have done it so I speak from experience. |

Are the main journals off or is it the fact you have to use different rods to keep pistons from coming out the top of the block? Thanks for the reply Andy |

You have to do a lot more than just different rods. Mains are ok but you have to cut the crank weights to get it to fit as well as a bunch of grinding |

If you don't mind telling how much do you have to cut off the weights. I asume you mean off the diameter of the weights and not the thickness and can you add the weight back to the thickness off the weights the get the ballance back and what pistons do you use. Will the cam clear the crank or do you have the clearance that as well? Thanks for the help. |

Use Genesis rods they work with truck crank 401 won't.
Even amount is cut off the outside of the weights. There is no need to add any weight back. Inline 6 cranks are neutral balanced take the same of each it will balance up easy. Best done in a 4 axis CNC mill Its alot of work to do this. |

Pardon my ignorance, but why wont the 401 ag rods work? How are they different from a 456 rod with a 1.5" wristpin? |

A 401 with head work a good cam good pump and injectors and turbo will make a lot of power I pull with one he's running road gear in 9500 with 20.8/38 tires and still looks stock till he lites it! |

Well good for you ?? Maybe John is looking outside the box to get a little more. I think it sounds like a neat build. You don't hear much on the blue ones, so let's keep this going on diff ideals of getting power. Andy how does the power compare to a 456 in HP and torque if you don't mind tell. |
