Need JD BB Help May 24, 2009 02:07AM
I now have a 6030 and want to start getting engine parts. So I would like to know what my bore, stroke, and cubic inch options are. If I start with a 619 what bore and stroke can I go to to get the big cubes like Staab and Lance Little sell. I have heard numbers like 640, 680, 720, 740, 800, and 820s. What kinds of bores and strokes go wth these? Is there other good places to go for parts that are good? When you see all those big cube JD BBs in IL they all have Tatrum Stickers on them and I was told all those engine kits come from Staab in WI. How big of a stoke and bore can you fit in a 619 block without a deck plate. Is the 531 different?

If I was you I would do a 680. You offset grind the crank to a 466 rod journal size, use 466 rods and bore the piston pin end a little. Its fairly inexpensive and seems to hold up well. The last crank I had done was $2500 out right from Riverside and the rods were $300 from a salvage yard. I would also buy the good reusable rod bolts from Riverside. There expensive but hold up well. Good luck!

I have a set of used pistons & rods for 680 ready to bolt in.
