I made some gears for an 1800 a few years ago. Some of the gears ended up being too slow and I still have them although I don't remember off hand what ratios they were. I do know that they were all faster than 6th gear.
We ended up putting in 3 new sets of gears. 1 was in 1st -3rd slot, 1 was in 2nd-5th slot and 1 was a new gear set to go in the low range slot but it was actually faster than the high range gear. So we ended with the original 6th gear and 5 gears faster. Ive never done it but I have heard that you can get different gears out of one of the oliver tractors that had the Minneapolis engine. These motors ran slower so the gears were faster. One thing you have to watch is the 1800 came in 3 different versions. A , B , and C. The C version I believe was very similar if not exactly the same as the 1850 tractors. The a and b version were a little different and I don't know if the gears would swap. The ones I have were made for a B version. Also I believe the 1800 tractors came with a few different ring and pinion ratios which could speed it up depending on which one you have in your tractor now. |

so do you think its better to try a different ring and pin or trans gears ? |

Even if you change the ring and pinion, you will still have only one pulling gear since 5th and 6th are so far apart. I would recommend changing at least your 5th and 6th gear and make them closer together but faster and then you would have two pulling gears to choose from. Changing either the ring and pinion or the transmission gears is basically the same amount of work. You have to remove the brake housings, the differential and I cant remember for sure but maybe even the axle housings. |

I took two high range gear sets and left one in the high range position put the other one were low range goes there is one tooth difererene in the top and bottom gear machine the centers out from one of the high range set and weld in the centers from your low range set if one is 32over a33 make the other one a33 over a 32 gears from 1700,s all the way to 135 whites will interchange. Call Brad at Maibach Tractor, he can fix you up with anything you need Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/10/2016 11:50PM by MH49. |

I'm running a 1955 4/6 set in my 2/5 spot. And the 1850 had the option of two 4/6 choices and I'm running the faster of the two in my 4/6 location. You also can look into a 4/6 gear set for a 2255, I've been told that was a faster set to make up for the lower rpm of the v-8 cat. |

V-8 cats ran faster than the inline 6. The gears might be faster but the input high and low gears where slower bc of the higher rpms. |
