help a guy out here (466 pump swap) April 17, 2016 09:05PM
I have a 1990 466 with an MW pump i would like to make 500hp i have been told that its not going to happen with my current pump? So the question than is should i find an a pump or go with a p pump? im not looking to blow a ton of money here whats the best /cheapest option for flowing 250-300cc's on this engine? can my 10mm mw pump make that kind of power for reasonable l money? if i go a pump what all do i need just the pump? or pump, adapter, gear and??? same with the p pump... im sorry for the barrage of questions but i would just like to get some good info here. what do you guys think or recommend?

A " P "pump is the way to go,but one off a New Generation DT466 will not work on an earlier engine, they turn the wrong direction and the shaft size will not fit your hub!!
You can use your engine adapter, gear and hub off your MW pump on a 3000 series P pump like from old Mack truck with 11 mm plungers they had the wrong governor for an AG tractor though.John Deere pumps all have start retard plungers and will not pump enough fuel, but have the right governor.Your going to have to spend some money to get what you need!!!

Called hypermax they said it would be $4800! No way am I paying that! So if I buy the mack pes6p120 I found can I just pull it apart and bring the cam to a regular machine shop with my Hub and have them machine to fit and reassemble myself without worries?

thank you for the responses its actually for a truck so i don't need an ag type gov will any p3000 pump work? i have access to a lot of old semi parts do all p3000's spin the right direction and have the same mounting pattern and shaft size? say i find a p3000 on an 8.3 cummins will that work for my setup? is it worth it to find an 11/12mm pump or if a find a 10mm pump should i just build off that?

Call hyper before you do anything. I think they can make the pump you have work for you. Also I think it isn't going to cost a lot. Good luck. Definitely worth a phone call. I remember awhile back they told me you can make a lot of power with that pump with a small update.

I'll give them a call thanks for the tip. What's a good price for a used 12mm p3000 guys? Found a "new" one for $600 it's of a mack is that a good buy? Can I make big power with minimal mods to this pump?

Ps jbuguy I'll give you a call when u get a chance thanks

I've built two IH pumps using Mack originated pumps. One p3000 and one p7100. The Mack pumps have "good" barrel/plunger assemblies and spin the right way. Problem is the front hubs on the Mack cams are always the large diameter and machining is required. Just my .02

I have in stock 10 billet hubs that fit that "big nose" Mack cam. Keith 402/750-8652

I called hypermax they want $4,800 for a modified MW pump no way am I paying that much! They also told me that I will not be able to find a p pump from a Mack that was larger than 10mm I was a little disappointed by my call to such a highly regarded business.

Kbacker so if I buy one of your Billet hubs AMAC p3000 will be a bolt-on affair?

Re: help a guy out here (466 pump swap) April 19, 2016 03:59PM
Close. His hub will get an IH gear to bolt onto the front. The P3000 Mack pumps can be bought brand new from Bert or Paul at LaCrosse Diesel Service. They are online. $1200. Will have 12mm plungers and non- retarded design. A factory plate can be used, but the Mack pump uses an extended plug to allow for more rack travel, and your factory IH plate will have to be machined to allow for this. Simple deal. You'll figure it out when it all comes together. What do you charge for your large taper hubs, Keith? I have a 12mm P7100 here of a newer Mack. Could use it for my next build.

The Macks run slower rpm than an IH,You will still need to switch governor components!!!
