IH truck heads April 18, 2016 09:58AM
Is either of the 6 cylinder straight valve heads better than the other? The two casting numbers i know of is 69717R1 and 124475R1, i have both and want to know which one to run.

The 124475R1 has less water holes to deal with, (which is the black diamond head). The silver diamond head is the 69717R1 .

black diamond is the best. silverdiamd is scrap iron. not worth much at all.

I would not say that exactly. They are both better than running a stock C301 head.

I have the 124475R1 on my current engine and have two spares, one of each number. One of those two need to go on my new engine. What is the better part of the black diamond if you dont mind my ask.

Just to set the record straight for everyone. Just bolting the truck heads on a c301 with no air flow improvements will not increase your perforance. The tractor heads, (both closed chamber and open chamber) and truck heads all flow about 155 cfm at .600 lift. The truck heads have the valves located in the middle of the combustion chamber allowing bigger valves, the intake ports have a higher ceiling which is good, but the short turn radious is where one needs to put their attention. It is possiblke to get 235cfm at .600 lift. We done it before and thats comparing stock and modified heads on same flow bench at 28inches and 4" piston. Hope this helps , probably more info than anyone ever wanted to know! Soo don't waste your time and money if your not going to make modifications.
