I know you can stick the 640 pistons in with some work.

Contact John Jones @ Odon Machine, (812) 636-7781. He has built quite a few 510, 540 & 640 Perkin's, both N/A and turboed. I know of several N/A 540's and one 510, that he took out to 640-650 cubes. He use to run his own 1155 in the Illinois Stock Tractor Pullers Association 10 & 12 N/A class that was very competitive. Hope that helps.

What kind of cubic inch numbers are you hoping for, is there a limit for the class you are wanting to run? 640 is pretty straightforward (pull the sleeves, bore, and use the 4.63" bore pistons out of a 640 perkins) If you are allowed, the 640 block has quite a bit of potential for big cubic inches, have heard rumors in the 8-900 range. I'm sure like anything else that there is a lot that could be done if the rules and ones pocketbook allow.

Thanks for the info guys.I knew the 640 had more potential but i was wanting to use the more common 540 block and run 640 heads and you have to run at least 4.5 bore to clear the valves.I heard the 1155 that won the 6500 na at gordyville a couple of years a ago was over 800 cid.

Well it sounds to me like you are planning on going in a good direction on your project. The 640 heads although sometimes hard to come by are the only way to go if you cant run an aftermarket head. If you dont mind, what class are you planning on building for? Love to see another V8 out there on the track!

I see a lot of 1150s at the superfarm level. What is common practice for most? Run an 1155 bell housing, a 640 motor, and a 1150 rear or do some bore the 510s/540s and utilize the 640 heads and manifolds? I am looking into my options for a 3500 rpm, 640 cubic inch limit profarm class.

Run the 640 block if u can! has piston coolers-the 540 parent bore gets real thin if u put 640 sleves in it! Some of the guys in the na classes are running without sleves but that wont work in a turbo class!!
