IH melted piston August 04, 2016 02:56PM
Hi guys,

i had a dropped valve problem, after i takes the head out i see my other piston is melted. My current setup is 13mm Ppump 600cc, water injection in the intake pipe 25oz per 10 second, 5x22 injector(brand new from FVP) 28*timing, S400 3x3 turbo. Never go up then 1350* on the pyrometer. Engine is Ih d414 engine with "H" head. What can be the cause of my melted piston ?

thanks for the help.

Anyone?

Are those D or DT pistons?

D piston. There is a difference between the D and DT pistons?

Do have the piston oilers spraying oil on the bottom of the pistons?
That's a must!
If you have a N/A block you may not have them.
They help cool the pistons.
Just a thought.

I'm pretty sure I have the oil sprayer.

I have a doubt on the "H" high swirl head usually used in non-turbocharged engine. Some people say it can spray fuel on the out of the bowl.

The H head does not work well with bigger turbos , put a + head on it , it will run way better !

As far as piston melting , I would send injectors out (since motor is apart ) and have them checked . Just to make sure one didn't get dirt in it , that way you can check that off the list . Make sure you didn't leave an extra copper washer in injector hole too on the cylinder that melted . Just my thoughts on this topic .

all opinions are apreciate!

I have one injector that I need to be replaced, because the valve hit it. i will make tested the others at the same time.

Thanks

Get new pistons ceramic coated..... I run 1780's egt no problem.... no water

Did you change the D oil pump to one from the DT 466 engine? That moves quite a bit more oil to provide for the turbo and piston cooling. I would think you could run more water too.
