dt466 roller cam June 04, 2009 01:51PM
Is there an easy way to tell if a dt466 IH is a roller cam or not from the outside??

Re: dt466 roller cam June 05, 2009 04:53AM
I believe you can tell from the dt 466, 467, 468. 466 is small lifter, 467 is either factory roller or big lifter, and the same with 468. But I'm not sure which is which.

it goes by serial number in the 467 and 468's, I am pretty sure all 469's were roller

How would a guy find out where the serial number breaks were? I just bought a good running 467 and I'm curious... but not enough to tear it down.Smiling

From what i remember if the serial number starts with 53#### it is a big bore roller cam. Also if it has an inline pump there is a better chance of it being a big bore roller cam. I have the exact break in serial numbers at home, i'll post it later today.

THANKS! Great info here at pulloff!

That sheet does raise some interesting questions... I have a 1984 467 "B" block with a charge air cooler even though the sheet says that didn't start until 1986.

Right my sticker says it was made in 1983 but the sheet says otherwise according to the ESN (assuming the sticker is orginal)

Dont even worry about serial numbers. No, not all 468 engines are roller cams either. I have plenty of blocks here in the shop that will say otherwise. Quite simply carry a 1/2 inch wrench with you in your truck when you are buying engines. Pull the three bolts off of the side of the truck blocks where the side mount breather would be installed on tractors. You can see plain as day whether or not the engine has roller lifters. Not that you can see the base of the lifter, but you can see the top. If the lifter has the flat steel inter-tie, or guide plate, then you have rollers. No guessing.

Agreed takes out the guess work. i have a 468 sitting in the shop also and i confirmed it is non roller
