case 1175 vs 970 rearend weight

I pull an 1175 and currently weigh 9900lbs. I picked up a parts 970 with an 8 speed rear and was wounding how much weight would I lose by switching my 1175 rear for the 970? One person told me I could lose close to 1200lbs but I dont see the plantaries adding that much weight. Niether setup will have cast centers. Trying to decide if its worth the work of switching it out and the money of buying 9 bolt hubs and new rims.

I weighed 1175 planetaries at one time and seem to remember them being 550 lbs a side |

If you are just trying to lose weight you should be able to get down in the low 9000s with 1175. I used too run that rear & weighed 9300 that was without pto unit, rockshaft unit & that was fiberglass nose, & steel rear wheels . 970 guy is about right though I think. Approximately 1100lbs in them planetaries. |

Do you pull road gear in your 1175? Consider your gearing changes with switching to the 970 rear. You can use the 1175 high range in for the 970 low to get some good ratios |

No I normally pull in 7th but thats in 11500 class. If I lost 1100lbs that would bring me down to 8800lbs with driver. I still have pto and hydraulics but no rockshaft so I could potentialy get down to that 8500 mark, then I'm sure I would be in road gear for the lighter classes |

Case 800

Do the 800 high range gears work for half gears? |

What ratio are the 800 high range? They need to be an overdrive to give you anything useable |
