What does it take to get power out of these. Will they hold up to decent power. What can you put on them for fuel. 1256 stuff transfer over for turbo?. Thanks

Re: international 856 power December 28, 2016 05:14AM
Turbo setup from a 12 or 14, roosemaster 450 with lines and injectors, and a bunch of small tricks can get you good power. For less money you can get more power from a 466.

Re: international 856 power December 28, 2016 06:09AM
You can get good power out of the 856 . There are allot of unanswered questions, weight class rules ect. one of the biggest draw backs
is going to be the pump there is only so much fuel that you can get out of a 450 and you need to be aware of the cost and reliability of getting
the fuel out. There is far more shops that are more comfortable doing model 100 pumps and inline pumps than rotatory 450 .

Re: international 856 power December 28, 2016 11:00AM
Rules would be 10000 lb 3000rpm 2.4 by 2.7 3lm any pump 38 inch rubber

Re: international 856 power December 28, 2016 11:02AM
410 cube limit

Re: international 856 power December 29, 2016 01:15AM
Perfect just put a P-pump on it right a way and buy the latest new fangled turbo, fire ring the head gasket and you'll be good to go

Re: international 856 power December 30, 2016 12:20PM
Any pump, for sure put an inline on it, either an A or a P pump. Get a double disc clutch in there, a pulling T/A if you plan on keeping a T/A in it. If you can't run water, I recommend having the tops & skirts of the pistons coated.

Re: international 856 power December 30, 2016 02:55PM
First you will need to cut fire rings in the head, and get yourself some good head bolts, I have part numbers for cat bolto if you are interested.

If you are a true fan of these tractors pull your 407 motor, anybody can run a 466, pulling my 407 was the most fun I ever had pulling. Be original

Re: international 856 power December 30, 2016 03:53PM
Head studs would be even better. Fire rings, valve reliefs and cam are important. Will be hard to stay on top of your charger in hi 3 without a new cam.

For all you experts out there: let's say you have an unlimited budget and are builiding a 407 for a 3000 rpm 3LM class or a 466 profarm class. What's your dream mods/ dream setup?

Also, most on here will tell you, take out your 407 rods, put them in a 466 and junk the rest.

Mr. 1456

I assume there was a budget involved, after all we were asked about a 856, cat bolts are easily over a grand less ( last set I bought was 180 bucks), I don't care what you have there is always something better. I've been doing this for over 40 years, my advice is do some work on your 856, and go out and have some economical fun. There is a lot of advice out there that will run most folks broke. Just try to have fun. If you want some ideas you can message me , I'd be glad to share some ideas.

Re: international 856 power December 31, 2016 01:05AM
Does anyone out there have a 1256 or 1456 turbo setup for this tractor.. tractor will still work in the field a bit but mostly just for going around local pull to pull

Re: international 856 power January 03, 2017 11:47PM
We have taken a turbo setup from a 1256 and open the fuel pump open on our 856, does run really good after you figure out the pump (roosamaster can be tricky) , now I just need a little more out of it to chase down a case and allis in the 10,500 class

Re: international 856 power December 31, 2016 07:45AM
Please stay true to the 407 and don't go with the other 99% with a 466. I've pulled a 407 for 22 years from a farm stock, to a profield and now a light pro/super. It will compete at all levels. Message me your number if you would like some advice.

Re: international 856 power December 31, 2016 08:24AM
It's running 410 cube limit so no need for 466 cube small charger any pump group out here is trying to keep the cost low I will give you a call thanks

Now, the 3LM-466 turbo is a simple enough bolt-on, but, there's an old school turbo trick that'll also wake up a 407, especially one that's fairly farm stock. The trick is to find the other turbo.

You want to find a 3LD-305 Schwitzer turbo. From what I gather, it was common on older military stuff, like a deuce & a half. Find one of those, take the V-band clamp off that attaches the exhaust housing & remove the original exhaust housing. Now take the original 3LD-229 from a 1256, do the same thing. Mate the 3LD-305's compressor & center section to the 3LD-229's exhaust housing. And you're done! The 407's original turbo exhaust housing will spin that 3LD-305 & give it more boost than stock, and yet won't require modification to fit the 407.

Again, the trick is to find a good 3LD-305.

Did the same thing with a 3ld 279 and a 3lm 353. Still got one of those.

I have a cam shaft that came out of a 806 here in ky that gave every one pulling the 66s fits it was from the engine Mark Fox ran I don't no whats been done to it but anybody in ky that pulled against it can tell you that it was one tough tractor 100 bucks takes it

Re: international 856 power January 09, 2017 09:12AM
Not to steal the thread but we are trying to get some different ideas with our 856 with 407. It's a 3500 rpm p-pump 2.5x2.8 turbo. Wondering about piston cuts. Other than valve clearance is anyone cutting the bowl different or just leaving stock?

Re: international 856 power January 09, 2017 01:32PM
Leave it stock and keep compression up.
