bearing preload and endplay

can anyone explain to me how to set bearing preload and end play on the axel of a 1066?
was told I need .001-.002 preload and .005 endplay thank you! |

Well you can't have both. To achieve a measured preload you must first add or remove enough shims to get a measurable endplay. Once you have that measurement to can remove or add shims to tighten or put a small load on the bearings. |

Ok, so it need to start with .005, then take shims out to get .001 - .002 |

Take end play out then set it by rolling torque |

Start with pre load to make sure bearings are seated then beat on axel. If pre load loosens up, repeat until pre load does not change, then shim to where you want it. MACK |
