What differences are here between a John Deere 404 crankshaft and a 466 crankshaft? Can a 466 crank fit straight into a 404 motor?

It will fit but no advantage they are the same stroke

Ok my reason for asking is I need a new crank for a 404 and I know where I can get a 466 crank.

You can't put a crank drive pump in a cam drive block but if you order a new crank from deere for your 404 you will get a crank that has the gear on it but you still use the cam drive oil pump. The cam drive oil pump flows plenty of oil

Although the stroke is the same and so is the bore spacing,the oil pump drive gear is probilty different.older model 404s drive there oil pump off the camshaft gear some 466 engines drive off cam gear some drive off the crank gear.

Does the crank driven oil pump on a 466 flow more than the cam driven 404 oil pump? What all needs changed on a 404 to run a 466 crank with crank driven oil pump, just change the timing cover?

Oil pump is different also,don't think you can interchange one to the other.As far as oil pressure they are regulated through the filter assembly you can shim the up to about 60 psi.Unless you are running an exteior oil pump I would find a crank that is for your block.

I think have a 404 a pump style shortblock with oil pump and pan if your interested 330 three 12-one 537
