Who builds a mean rotary pump for Deere 404???
|
Got an older 404 has a lot of motor and head work. Needing a bit more fuel. Has a vertical rotary pump. I know the best thing is to build a newer motor with p pump but just thought I would see what's out their before I do. Has a 45 pump head tested at 340 cc. Thanks |

The fella you need to talk to is Andy Dutton down in South Carolina. He ran a rotary for years on his previous 4010 and made it run hard. He runs the Drifter 2 alky now in the super stock class. |

Yeah have already heard about and he is no longer working on them. They say his pumps are the best. |

What are you running for RPMs |

The higher the RPMs that you want to run on your rotary pump the shorter the life and the fuel quantity is not near as good if you are running lower RPMs .
If you run lower RPMs you can run a lot more fuel and have a lot longer pump life . |

I have heard it is possible but not many seem sure, can you machine the 404 block to run a p-pump in classes that limit engine size? |

I am currently running 3500 rpm. I have a newer 466 motor setting in shop I can build I just was looking for a little short term help. I just bought this tractor planning on having to scrap the motor but I am running pretty close to the compitition as it is. A little more fuel would go a long way. |

3500 is a good rpm for a rotary pump if you keep it around that rpm the pump will last for a long time without any trouble, you also will not need as much of a supply
system to feed that pump the pump shop that does a lot of rotary pump work is Wimers fuel injection |

I sold all my .450 heads a few years back. I could probably come up with another one if needed, but those heads are getting hard to come by and they are very expensive. The one I ran on my old tractor, after the .450, was a .562. The real key to making them work though, is how it is setup, inj opening psi, and how it is fed. As far as rpm, yeah there is a certain point where the fuel drops off, but they will turn a lot more rpm than you think, so don't be afraid to lean on it.
