Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 02:07AM
Has anyone destroked a 426 to 4.25 and run a 2 charger LLSS? So would be a square motor, 4.25x4.25.

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 03:31AM
Eugene is rumored to be doing that very set-up.

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 03:44AM
Unless my math is flawed that would need 0.375" off the crank rod journal . So on a 426 that would be 2.00" Dia.finished. The 426 is a 5.000" stroke.

Small dia to get that cubes. Has anybody destroked a 466 JD or IH down to 370 ci?

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 03:47AM
Yes the dt 466 has been de-stroked to 370, they start with a 414 crank though.

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 08:27AM
You can't put a 301 in a 426. Size is different. You can put a 400 series IH in a 426 block tho I have never done it but want to in the future. Now why couldn't you use a 414 crank and do it that way?

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 11:37AM
A 414 has 4.75 stroke doesn't it? Leaves me in same situation.

Never heard of the no decubing rule. Would be BOB, KTPA, Midsouth. Do they allow it?

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 12:31PM
I believe Badger State has rule no de-cubing. But I could be wrong

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 08:31AM
Does the group you are planning pulling with allow de-cubing. Some don't

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 04:23AM
Don't they weld up the rod journal, then machine it to move the centerline back towards the centerline of the mains? If so, couldnt you keep the same standard rod journal diameter? Correct me if wrong, I am honestly not familiar with how they stroke or destroke a crank. And suprisingly, there is not much on google. Thanks!

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 04:30AM
Also, the std rod journal on a 426 is 2.75. So if they did machine it with no welding that would bring it down to 2.375 finished, similar to the journal in a 301. Is that believed to be too small of journal?

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 05:17AM
You need to lay that out. On a 5" stroke to take that 2.750" journal to a 4.250" stroke it would cleanup at 2" Dia. If they weld them, which they might as I have never done that you might be able to get the journal dia you want.

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 05:29AM
No, to take a 2.75" journal @ 5" stroke to 4.25" stroke without welding the journal would be 2" & in reality would need to be a bit under to ensure the grinder hits all the way around.

Yes, cranks can be stroked and destroked by welding on material before grinding. Southern Ill Crankshaft used to do quite a few of them but I think they are out of business. Not sure who still does them now.

Are you thinking alky or smoker?

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 06:07AM
I don't know anything about AC but will the 301 crank fit in the 426 block? Isn't it already 4.25 stroke?

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 08:29AM
I agree, was looking at that wrong. Would be a 2" journal.

Had no idea Southern Ill was out of business, that is who I was thinking about calling. Anyone else?

Was looking at going 360 in^3 2 charger diesel. Would like to think with the shorter stroke could get the rpms up a bit, but realize it would hurt you with torque in some situations. Any input?

Also, a 301 crank will not work. It has smaller main journals, and i am pretty sure different bore spacing.

Cornett machine does a lot of stroking and destroking 606 678 5163 But why not go with the 5.9 cummins

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 10:32AM
What is the bore/stroke on the 5.9 out of curiosity.

426 only because we have a lot of good parts and are pretty much set up for it

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 10:40AM
THEYRE 359 CUBE the bore is around 4.17 or so metric and the stroke is around 43/4 Idid no for sure because ive built 4 on alcohol but that's just a close guese if weights going to be a problem the 5.9 will be a lot lighter

Re: Destroked 426 August 16, 2017 01:59PM
Why not go with a billet crank? That would get you what ever stroke/journal size you need? Also wondering why you Lss or LLss don't already use billet cranks? Just curious not starting anything here.

Re: Destroked 426 August 17, 2017 12:12AM
Nothing against a billet crank, but I do not believe a $10k crank in a LLSS is neccessary (just personal opinion). However, there are a lot of people running billet cranks in the LSS. None I know of in the LLSS.

Re: Destroked 426 August 17, 2017 02:18AM
How much HP are the LLSS tractors making and what kind of internal engine part are meed to be reliable?
