4-9/16 bore stock crank is 510. you should wet sleeve it.

Curt, how do you get a 456 and a 474 to 540, and which engine performs better at 540 cubes.
?. Is one engine better for mod turbo .
, and one for pro farm ? Thanks

474 is a lot cheaper, you will not notice any horsepower difference. The best way to get to 540 depends on how big of huffer your going to put on it, if you are running a lite pro class just bore and sleeve a 474 to 4 5/8 with stock crank 524 cubes. if your running a hot farm or small charger class you can use a stroker crank and get to 540 but it won't last in a lite pro. if your trying to build a lite pro I would deck plate and girdle if its a small turbo class I would girdle but wouldn't both with a deck plate.

and do you deck plate and girdle at 540

On the cheap you can use a jd 466 piston. I am not sure about using the 1.750 wrist pin its probably fine we just never tried it we always bushed the rod to 1.625. Obviously a billet piston would be better. A good 474 is hard to beat but if the boys are running over you than it is the next step.
