would there be much advantage to using like a 407 rod or JD rod still using the 4.3 bore and 5.35 stroke?
Any more power or torque with the longer rod? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/09/2018 09:45AM by Midnight Harvester. |

Not enough difference to amount to anything. |

I'd run a 407 rod in before I ever put a 466 rod back in. There's enough difference in the wrist pin placement to make a difference.
A hardened and balanced 407 rod is going to be a better bang for your buck if you're looking at a non-billet route. I saw a tremendous difference in low-end torque between the two sets. |

Explain your theory here? Wrist pin placement? Did you change cams at the time you changed rods? |

Pretty well accepted theory that a long rod is advantageous. |

The 407 rods are longer than the 466 rod by about .350.
That changes the angle during the revolutions of the crankshaft. |

I think 9" rod is pretty common in 466 I have motors. |

I agree that a longer rod is better, but your tuning window gets really narrow with a longer rod! Just keep that in mind! Some of big time engine builders are getting away from deck plates for that reason. |

Why does it make a small window for tuning? |

its the dwell time ......time piston stays at the top of the cylinder before starting back down ..longer rods allows for a longer roll over of the crankshaft before piston speed picks back up going other way ... |
