Rod length? June 23, 2018 11:51AM
Building engine was wondering how critical the length of the rod will be. Engine will be diesel 3500 rpm at most. What all factors in when deciding rod lenght. Will have too add cubes or decube both of which the rod will come in to play.

It will be a case or maybe a cummins have not fully decided motor or which class heavy or light one is 466 3500rpm or up to 640 at 3000rpm. Or 360 cube 3000 rpm class. Would like to build case engine personally tired of red green and cummins in the small class.

Can someone just answer the guys rod question

Re: Rod length? June 25, 2018 04:03AM
This question has been discussed on here many many times in the past. There is no single good one size fits all answer. Everyone has a different opinion. Changing the rod length changes the dynamics of the pistons as the crank rotates. The only way to know for sure is to build two engines and dyno them.

The problem with a case is the rod ratio is not good. With a rod length at 10 inches and a stroke at 5 inches the rod ratio is 2:1. Case engines work best with big cubes.
