V8 Hot Rods

I was wondering after looking at the V8 hot rod from Maryland on the 4 sale page what it would take to get a class like that in Ky Ohio has the class also the tractors look really nice instead of streatched out frames with an engine on the front ECO hot rod stuff reminds me of the Old Gold Finger Massey Harris and the M v8 Farmals that used to be around Kool CLASS |

We run them here in western Illinois/ NE Missouri, call them Classic Modifieds. I pull with 2 organizations, UPA and IFPA. Have 7-10, sometimes as many as 13-14 at shows. Can have a lot of fun with a fairly modest investment.
We run small blocks, 360 cube limit. 18.4 tires. Have to run factory sheet metal. Have some sharp rides. |

We have 3 or 4 associations in Nebraska that have them. You just never know who's showing up. Depending on where the pull is it could be 2 or 10. |

Lewis,
If you don't mind doing some work to finish one, I'll make you a heck of a deal on a 454 Chevy powered 44 Massey Harris. |

Central Ohio Tractor Pullers run a small block class. They have good numbers and plenty of hooks for them. COATPA.COM is their website. |

It would be nice to get enough together here in ky to start one it should be a more economical class |

I have seen this class run in eastern mo and western il. Those tractors dont run very good. Not much wheel speed or track speed. The best running one belonged to an older crippled women built in her chicken house. |

There a lot of sharp rides in Central Ohio class!! |

I actually know of 2 that are for sale in PA. It’s have to be Big Block Rules, though. As everyone knows, nothing in Pulling is cheap but it is a rather economical class. One tractor for sale is a Ford Powered Cockshutt and the other is a Ford Powered Ford 6000. Both have 502s and Slipper Clutches. If you’re interested, let me know |

the 6000 isn't a ford chassis..cost close to 40,000 to get a top 3 consistently too |

I personally think 40K is high. I know of several that have less than 20K in them that are competitive. Maybe don’t win everytime but still do well. It just depends on what knowledge you have, who builds it for you, how many mistakes you make along the way, how many parts you have access to. But 40K seems high to me. The 2 I know that are for sale are for sale for less than half that. |

Plum, I agree with you too. That Iron Heads rule is tough. It’s so hard to find good iron heads. Then when you do, they’re expensive to make competitive. They’d be better off running aluminum and it’d be cheaper in the long run. Keep cost down with the RPM limit. |

It seems like the Real World 14 degree heads cost the most, then different intake, headers and on and on,other common readily available stuff is cheaper, but won't compete. It takes 800 - 900 hp to go 20 mph and spin out at the end. |

Yep. And then you start breaking other parts because those rearends are stout but that’s hard on those tractors. Broken Hubs, gears, etc. |
