why nothing about hamburg August 24, 2018 03:11PM
I am a fan of pulling and I do understand that the "so called 3 major orgs" have there big pull on the same weekend but on this site there has been a lot of conversation about wisner and bowling green but not much said about ppl big pull at hamburg I am just wondering how was it was there good number of hooks and how was the attendance I AM NOT STARTING ANYTHING BAD JUST CURIOUS THANKS!!!

Re: why nothing about hamburg August 25, 2018 01:14AM
I went on Friday night. Rain was a threat on Thursday so I choose Friday. (The announcer stated Thursday started late and must have went late- probably affected attendance but I was not there.) Friday attendance was as good as usual- infield stands full and the large grandstand with the usual numbers it seemed. 10 ESP 4 wheel drive trucks, Lucas Oil PPL had 10 mods, 25 2-Wheel Drive trucks, 16 Super Farms and 12 Open Super stocks. It was well run, competitive, good track, and excellent overall as usual. They moved along fast- rain was coming, but the entire show was completed before rain arrived. On 2 tracks 80 hooks in just about 3 hours.

Well, Bowling Green and Wisner are the signature events for NTPA and Outlaws. PPL's signature event, if you want to use the term, would probably be Hillsboro (or for diesel trucks, Schied in Terre Haute this weekend).

BG and Wisner offer a lot more classes, overall vehicles, and attendance than Hamburg. No disrespect to that event, but those are the reasons why more people talk about BG and Wisner.

Even the family that owns pulloff.com is from New York, and you will note which pull they choose to attend every year. It isn't Hamburg.

And still, The EC Fair board can't remove its head from its rear end and change the pull back to opening night...It should go back to NTPA so the guys that travel up to langford (which would be the weekend before) could go right there. For them to compete with BG and a pull in Pike (40 minutes away ) is assinine ,why spread the pullers out so thin?

Personally,

I Love the Hamburg Pull! Its a Big venue, this year had a Good Track for the Trucks anyway, great attendance, the Fair is Huge and fun, many folks walk over to the Casino and have fun there at night. BG is a cluster! We all wanna win it but, its as much a "Show" as anything anymore! We are allowed 2 hot pit passes, so that means I have to tow the truck and sit and wait and move up and God forbid don't hold up the Cluster of a line from scale to hitch set to track! Not much time to watch and formulate a game plan! Pits are horrible, and bar none the dirtiest the Hauler, puller, pit vehicle and all will be all year long! And a big ole thank you to whoever got us kicked out of the Factory Parking Lot next door, was the best Pit I ever had at BG. With all that said I'm sure we will be back next year!

The pull is at the end of the fair, so that the track and infield aren't a mess for the concerts, and other events at the Grandstand. It was a conscious decision by the fair, to keep it cleaner, by waiting until the end. Same as last year, same as next year. This was discussed last year, as well.

Dumb idea then, dumb idea next year too
