I am potentially building a Case 970 pull tractor.
I want to take the 401 cylinder heads out and replace them with Case 504 cylinder heads, which 504 engine would be best to pull the cylinder heads out of? |

The valves in a 504 head won't clear the cylinders in a 401. If you're altering them to get clearance, the 504 heads with Bosch screw in injectors, not the pencil injectors are the way to go. The 2090/2290 heads have 45* angle seats which are better than 2390 on up heads that have 30* seats is what's been mentioned in other posts. |

Can you bore out pencil injector bore in 401 heads to accept screw in injectors from the 504? |

It depends how close the water jackets get to the injector bore on the 401 heads, I don't have any experience in that area. |

Thank you for letting me know that the 2090/2290 would be better than the 2390. |

I'm from Ontario.
Looking to run in 8000lb modified farm under the OTTPA. I should have specified that I wanted to modify the cylinders to fit 504 heads and that I knew I wanted bosch screw in injectors. I didnt know which model of case engine would be better. |

the heads from a 504 will never work on a 401. it has been tried on a 451 with the sleeves notched for valve clearance . win the air comes out of the valve chamber it runs directly into the cylinder wall thus losing its swirl pattern. lots of smoke and no horsepower. on a 401 don't think you could notch the sleeve enough to even make it fit. 2 different people that I know have tried it on the 451 to no avail. the one person went to indy cylinder head and had heads made. most rules wont allow that. |

Thank you for responding,
I have talked to a few people that run 970's in the class I will be pulling in. They have done this and say that it works. |

There is a builder in the South that puts JD injectors in the 504 heads and moves the valves for a 466 class.
He builds new pistons. Claims he can get over a 1000 hp at 3000 rpms |
