Pulling A 12.5 MPH Class With A Former Pro Field Puller

I recently purchased a 1466 IH puller that used to pull a 9000 Pro Field class..Its sit for several years with a burnt piston and liner..I really cant afford to pull Pro Field so want to drop it in to a 12.5 MPH Hot Stock class where it shouldn't be too rough on parts.....The HS rules are pretty simple, speed 12.5 MPH, weight 10,500 lbs,3000 rpms, any size engine,turbo,pump,20.8 x 38 uncut tires max, etc....I have a dandy set of road worn 20.8 x 38 Power Savers to go on this tractor..
Heres what I'm working with..1466 IH with a 570 CI engine,P Pump,GT 42 or S400 turbo, water,Atlas 3 speed with 1-2-3 over road gear,Kenny's 3 disk clutch,24.5's on aluminum, etc..The question I'm asking is what gear do I need to pull a 12.5 MPH class?Of course mine are all way too fast but I do want to keep the 2 fastest gears to pull a couple of times a year with another association..What speed gear do some of you run? Would a 16 MPH gear be about right..?The tractor that wins this class doesn't seem to break a sweat..Seems to stay at about 2200-2400 rpms and after 200 ft plus starts pulling the throttle down until he spins out at 3000 rpms... Dairy Blend if you read this what piston and sleeve do I need? The 570 cube engine came from you about 6-7 years ago.. |

With that kind of setup you should be able to horse stock 3rd or a tooth or two under at 12.5 mph. |

I have the original 1466 tranny thats been slightly modified..The way I have it figured is that 3000 rpms in stock high 3rd will be 20 MPH on 20.8 x 38's....So at the start of the run I would only be at 2000 rpms...I also only a have a 2 disk clutch for the original transmission.....I've heard that they won't take much over 500 horses...I know that high 2nd will be too slow.. |
