Reducing Case 970 weight October 23, 2018 06:04AM
My tractor weighs 10,500 lbs, it has to be 8,000 lbs.

Fuel tank is full, that is only 400 pounds that I would lose if i were to drain the tank.

Tractor has three point hitch and two hydraulic remotes, I plan on taking them off.

Plan on cutting axles and getting smaller front tires/rims.

Tractor has three front weights on it, i plan on keeping them to keep the front down.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to lose more weight.

Ive looked into fiberglass fenders but beyond that I am baffled in regards to lightening this tractor. I dont know if my organization even allows fiber glass fenders in my class.

Thanks

Keep this in mind. Whether its weights hung on it OR what the front actually weighs can keep the front end down. Dont get caught up in that oneway road thinking.

I used to run a 966 in everything from 8500 to 13500 and never put any weights on the nose till 11500

pressed steel wheels cab off or canopy if not there all levers to engage pto three point all valves from side unless power shift cant take that one off, take back plate with pto off and replace that is your start. I would look into finding one that has already been stripped such as the 1030 that is sitting in my shed at 5850lbs.

My cousin had his 1070 down to 7700.

On my open station 1070 8 speed I got it down to 7700, stock 451 with no turbo, with me on it and no weights except the weight brackets. I had a narrow front end, fiberglass nose, and removed: seat & seat base, fuel tank, air cleaner assembly, hydraulic cooler, hydraulic filter, rockshaft, hydraulic boxes, and rear hitch support with sway blocks. I have the short axles with 3 3/16" axles so I didn't cut them off, might lose another 35 lbs total if I did. I made a plate for the rear hitch support, shortened the draw bar, and used one battery mounted near the starter. I used a Case OEM rockshaft delete cover and had pressed steel wheels with M&W 9 bolt hubs with 20.8-38's. I had fenders made to look like cab style fenders, lowered them 5" and used 16 gauge sheet metal. They weigh about 45 lbs each vs 85 lbs for factory open station fenders. I cut the console down to only the transmission and throttle levers. I cut the top of the deck off the platform except the outer 1/2" and glued an 1/8" aluminum sheet cut out to match the original deck to drop another 40-50 lbs. I used a 3 gallon fuel can for the fuel tank and used a light weight cushion seat and seat support. The Case is plenty heavy on the front end if you have your hitch as close to the PTO housing as possible, on almost all tracks the front end never came up or came up just slightly in 7700. Also if you have a powershift transmission it's 300 lbs heavier than the manual 8 speed. I modified an aftermarket wide front end (a Norden, similar to a Schwartz) and that put it at 7850.
