S400 vs GT42 vs HX60 January 03, 2019 06:18AM
Looking for a affordable 3" turbo for a 466 p-pump open rpm. GT42 and S400 have similar spec but HX60 has an bigger exducer than the other two. Which would be the best choice ?

Gt42 based turbos are on top for 3” stuff right now. S400 tend to have reliability issues and don’t make the top end power. Hx60’s just turn too hard for a 466 to keep lit

If you are talking stock versions the the Gt42 will be pretty decent, if you are talking latest and greatest the hx60, the hc5 and the gt55 from 3 vendors are #1 now particularly in open rpm. You can pick up a 3x3 pretty cheaply though. This is assuming you aren’t limited to 3” outlet

Harts 3x3 really hard to overcome.

Only if limited to 3” out. Hart’s is building one of the above mentioned turbo’s. It performs significantly better than the 3x3

Thanks for all answers. Now I run a 3x3 s400, a local turbo guy offered me a billet wheel, it’s a 6 blades 75x111mm instead of 75x101mm stock cast. I am better to spend money on my turbo or on a box gt42?! I know I can call Harts but I don’t have big money to spend on it. Thanks

Not sure I completely understand what you are trying to do but the gt42 is a better platform to grow from if you don’t have a bunch of money to spend. However if you are trying to compete against billet wheel chargers with a stock charger you will have an uphill battle

Gt42. Hart will make more power but won't last that has been my experience.
