4430 rear end with 4010 finals
|
NEED ADVICE
|
i have a 4430 rear end and I am wanting to put on the faster 4010 finals. I know the bolting flange is thinner on the 4010 and the housing gasket is the same so it will bolt up. My question is there any thing else that has to be changed or machined? Is the sun gear the same size and spline? |

Are you using the internal brakes? if you are you should need most of the 4010 brakes and stub shaft. There is one other little thing that I can't remember.. line up pin.. or have to grind a small notch in one housing... Can't remember.. |

You will need the 4010 stub shafts or replacement equivalent since the 4430 Sun gear is a different size. You will need to grind a 45 chamfer on the lip of the housing for the finals to fit. If you are using internal brakes there is quite a bit of additional machine work that will need to be done. You can call me if you want 719-963-5040. |

Been following this post, what would this change your ratio to? For instance if your current ratio was 20:1, and you change from 4430 to 4010 finals, what would the new ratio be? Thanks |

So can you go the other way? Putting 4430 on 4010. |

Get "Aftermarket" "stub shafts" We could not get ours in time and made 2 passes at NFMS. When we took it apart, the factory ones were twisted 2 splines worth and the spline itself was cracked |

Check with Carl at Atlas Tractor. He has at least 2 styles depending on if you are running factory brakes. |

Tim Engler, GMS, and I think Profab all have them. |

I used to work at the factory in Waterloo. We assembled the rear axles. We never called them “Stub shafts”.. We always called them “ Potato Mashers”. Even the engineers called them that. |
