Engine swap February 09, 2019 07:30AM
Will an engine from a 640 john deere skidder bolt to a 4020 rear or is bolt pattern different?

The data in a 640 Skidder shows that it uses a 6068 engine you would be better off with a 404 out of a combine or a 466 it would fit better, in my opinion.

It will bolt to rear half of a 4020 using the rear engine plate from a 4030 or 9000 series combine engines, I have done this in both pulling and stock applications. For stock applications it takes custom frame rails and water pump to name a few of the many custom alterations. As previous poster stated for stock / farm application much more economical to use the Waterloo engine in the Waterloo tractor. Pullers not so bad if you are not worried about stock flywheels, clutch, sheet metal and accessories fitting and connecting up. DW
