18.4-34 tires

Has anyone ever had experience using 18.4-34 full cuts in 5-7000# classes? How do they perform compared to 38's? |

I do in Antiques, but I always felt I was at a disadvantage to 18.4 x 38s.

depends on if your gearing is high or lower to match traction. If higher gear is just a little too much with 38s,-- 34s will give you less traction, less gear,-- hence seems like more power |

Went from 38 Field and Road Hand done full cuts to 34” Radial Double Cuts. It was a game changer for us. It’s in a V8 Antique. Went from lugging the motor down and snuffing out right when we needed it to being very competitive and getting a couple wins. It wasn’t a power thing for us. We knew we had as much power as top competitors(dyno tested) but it wouldn’t hold it at the the big end.
Went to 34s and it was essentially a gear change for us. That for us worked perfect. Now...That being said there will be times that you’re at a disadvantage to the bigger footprints but there are also times where you’ll be at an advantage. That’s pulling. Also...Just food for thought. The footprint (plate) of a 38” Field and Road is 307” 34” Radial All Traction footprint (plate) is 305”. So pretty much the same. That’s my experience. Like I said. Doesn’t mean it will work for everyone but so far for us, it’s been positive. |
