Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 09, 2019 12:32PM
Which would be stronger? How much will they handle for hp, torque and RPM?

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 09, 2019 02:07PM
Call Rudy or Brad Maibach They are very knowledgeable with the Oliver line. Their number is 330-939-4192

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 10, 2019 12:38AM
The Hydra Power is stronger. It’s drawbacks tho are that it takes power to run it unlike the TAs that Internationals have. And the over/unders are a weak point for Olivers in a pulling application. So if strength is all your worries about then a hydra power is the way to go but it takes horsepower.

Other way around, the over/under are stronger than they hydra powers. You need to contact Terry Foss and he can set you up with what you need. 414 379 9495

Has anyone ever took the over and under and made it into a straight two speed gear box

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 11, 2019 10:50AM
Yes, a 2 or 3 speed SCS box fits in that location quite well.

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 11, 2019 12:32PM
Thanks for the input and info. I'm trying to figure out a cheap alternative to gain a half gear in a sbf V-8 modified antique tractor turning 5-8000 rpm. There would be no shifting under load just wanting to gain more ranges

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 12, 2019 10:41AM
No v8, turbo deisel turn around 4000 I'm running 5th gear now at about 18mph but it a big jump to 6th so going to have to about double hp just worried about trans and rear and if it's worst put money in to it with gears

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 12, 2019 03:33PM
Oh ok. I misunderstood. But yes the jump from 5th to 6th is a big one. Maibach’s would definitely be able to steer you in the right direction. Brad is extremely helpful.

I have done this before on a sbf it works well but needs to be beefed up some to hold up there heavy my customer actually shifted it too you have to be a machinest too make it work

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 12, 2019 12:16AM
Oliver 12v I think you and I are calling the same thing 2 different names but maybe I’ve got myself confused. To me the over/under and hydra power are the same thing. It’d be the 2 speed that they put in the 50 series. They were a good unit.

The hydraul is the 3 speed that they put in the 55 series and then into the Whites. They were also a good unit but he more issues than the 2 speed. Am I all backwards? I think we actually agree as to what is stronger but like I said. I could be getting myself confused...

While we're on the topic how much power will a 88 trans and rear take

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 11, 2019 03:28PM
I meant put gears in the over and under box to make it like a scs box some classes don't allow putting a scs box in its place such as llss

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 11, 2019 11:48PM
Just Pulling, an 88 will take quite a bit of horsepower if you are running in the V8 antique class. If I may make a suggestion tho, I’d your rules allow it, you may want to use either an 880, or better yet a 1650 or 1800A rear. They’re stronger and newer.

If that’s not an option for you, then an 88 will do well but not as strong. Many guys get gears made for the class but it’s not because of the strength but ratio.

How hard do you plan to turn it? 6000 or 8000?

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 15, 2019 11:16AM
I run a over /under in my V8 mod i used c4 ford steels and discs in one and c6 ford steels and discs in the other. I have ford 351 power 368 cubic inch turn it 8000 rpm at every pull. Running massey 44 rear end w new gears and shafts that i had made. works very well. have two disk slipper clutch in front of it

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 15, 2019 12:25PM
1650 rear will hold about 700hp. Better get your wallet & imagination ready if you go over that

Re: Oliver Hydra power or over/under July 29, 2019 03:01PM
Not trying to steal the thread but a lot of talk here about a light weight Oliver rear/chassis. I currently have a 1650 rear with 88 axles and wedge frame that was built at maibach tractor that I need to sell. Was set up with 2-155 hoods
