Trying to clean (paint?) from block/head gasket surface July 12, 2019 01:46AM
Have a head removed and it appears the previous installation used what appears to be aluminum paint on the head gasket. An old timers thing that was common in this area. But so far I can’t find anything that will remove it fom the block. Tried scraping, brushing, paint remover. Any suggestions? Thanks

Emery cloth is intended to remove metal. Not wanting to do that. And it’s an in frame repair. Can’t be getting that contamination (grit) into tha engine. Was hoping to find a chemical type solution.
Thanks

John Deere used to make an aerosol paint and decal remover that would eat thru anything

They make paint stripper disks and pads for rotary air die grinders. They eat everything but metal.
