Timing on a 1066 13mm? August 04, 2009 04:29AM
Working on a 1066 with 414, 3lm 466 turbo, and model 100 13mm pump. looking for ideas of timing change from stock settings(I believe stock is 20?) . Pump does have advance in it. Pulling in 3000rpm classes. Thanks

your best bet will be to start at about 22. that seems to be a nice place to start and many engines run great there,,,,,since ur not going for high rpms,,,and the rpm,s arent much more than stock,,,,u dont need a lot of advance...it should run fine at 22..23...the factory advance is 14 degrees on most of those pumps,,,

i had a 13mm pump ambac, 35 degrees is great, adds another grear almost!
18 is stock by the book, i had to much flame at less than 35.

If you had to put your timing at 35 to keep the flame down you may need a new cam or one with a different grind. We run a 13 mil and a 15 mil and both are at 24 and we pull 3rd and 4th gear.....

No

I started out at 20 with my pump and turned the manifold cherry red. Bumped it to 28 and till had 14 inch flame. Did some checking found out my pump has no advance, moved a tooth and ran at 33 with still 8 iches of flame. Moved it to 36 and have got the flame to around 5 inches. Going to move to 38 and see what happens. But if your pump has advance that is around 14 degrees, so pull 14 off my 36 and your at 22. Only two ways to put out a flame on a motor without water and that is more timing or more fuel.

I AGREE, 22 IS WHERE MINE WAS AT, RAN GREAT

I ran mine at 36 degrees and could run road gear on a hard track, 3rd on a tight track. 14 degrees in pump.

How do you adjust the timing?

you need a service manual for your make and model.

what service manual would you recommend for an IH 1066 non-hydro?
