Camshaft break-in

Should I take the time to break in my flat tappet cam in a case 504? Seems lots of people don’t but the car guys claim it’s critical. Is it worth saving myself a few hundred bucks on an oil change? Thanks. |

Dump some High zinc additives in and break it in just like you would any other flat tappet. Use just regular 40 wt. Or any other cheap heavy oil for break in. Then put the good stuff in it. However most good quality racing oils that you would typically run already have the zinc and additives in it. |

Thanks. I googled that up and found a write up saying one of those bottles (16oz) mixed into 4.5 quarts will be about 5000ppm zinc content, is there a number that I should be shooting for? |

They are brand new, but reliance brand... hopefully they hold. Heard too many stories about them. |
