Huge NTPA announcement! April 23, 2021 05:12AM
Florida rejoins as NTPA member state

Perhaps the tide has started to turn? Great news! Hopefully they can add more events and build up a base of pullers.

Question- What divisions are there currently in Florida that have active pullers?

That's a VERY good question!

2050 NTPA Mini Rods, 6000 non blown 2wd trucks, 5200 pro stock 2wd trucks, 6250 light limited SS, 6200 Blown 2wd, 6200 pro stock 4wd and 8000 light limited were all there in 2021. I can speak for Ocala and Clay County as we were there to hook with our mini. Great venue, well run and the spectators turned out in numbers! Looking forward to 2022 with the NTPA the backing it up now, these events of the Mid Florida should only get better and better!

Having a bit of knowledge about how NTPA is with classes not recognized in their existing rulebook... how are the Florida pullers going to accept this arrangement?

The 8,000 lb Light Limited Pro Stock Tractors in Florida (similar to an 8500 Limited Pro or a 77/7800 Light Limited Turbo from Interstate) are nowhere to be found in the NTPA rulebook. Neither is a naturally aspirated 2wd truck, nor a N/A small block mini, nor a pro stock 4wd truck with 500 cubic inches & 34" tires.... I for one feel as if they have signed their own death warrant.

Here's an example, here in NC under PPL, we formed a 9500 lb hot farm class, 470 cubic inch, 24.5x32 tires, and a box charger with a claim rule. The class took off & began growing faster than any other class in the area. When UPOC (an NTPA member state organization) decided to add the class to their events, they approached Larry Richwine with the class. To which he responded, NTPA already has a "hot farm" class (510 ci, 20.8x38 tires, & any 3x3.5 turbo) and if you're going to run a "hot farm" class, you have to honor the existing NTPA rules for all sanctioned events. Therefore, at the state fair, they had to make the class invitation only to prevent any 510 tractors from coming & wrecking the class...

So.... how are the pullers who already live in Florida, & take pride competing in these premiere events in their home state, going to accept the possibility that they may not be allowed to pull at these events under NTPA sanctioning???

While some of the NTPA classes may not directly fit people that are in florida, if they change their tractors over to something like NTPA hot farm or any other NTPA class they will be able to pull locally as well as travel and go see how you stack up in more competitive states like ohio, indiana, and illinois. One of the BIGGEST problems in pulling is people starting classes that are not nationwide so pullers get caught up in pulling in only their small organization and can´t compete with other larger groups and if they decide to sell they can almost only sell to people in there area. I personally know people in UPOC that were planning on pulling with NC with there 510 hot farm and now they can´t come compete because of the roundabout way to keep the NTPA legal tractors out. If you want to stay in your own small group of competition you can but make the rules so you can travel if you want to travel and compete you can. I think the pullers in florida will have a little more sense than the NC hot farm guys and will switch over to an NTPA class so that they can compete anywhere that flies an NTPA flag. Unification of classes is the reason that NTPA was started.

Why didn't they already have classes & rules & vehicles built to match national organization rules & classes so they could travel & compete in the first place??? Probably because of the same reasons any group of pullers do this, cost to build & maintain, and the fact they're not interested in traveling all over the country to compete!

Re: Huge NTPA announcement! April 27, 2021 02:16AM
This is just my opinion but just because it is a class that is national doesn´t make it expensive. It is your choice to spend money in a class and just because you have a box turbo doesn´t make the class affordable. There are many box turbo 466 tractors (even one in NC) that well into the 100k range and if they decided to get out they couldn't sell it anywhere but in their own state. You cannot make a class cheap by putting rules on it like this so you might as well let the guys build it to the NATIONAL spec and if they have to sell it at least they can have more people who would be willing to buy it to put it in a class and start pulling. Do some of the NTPA 510 hot farm guys have 100k plus in a tractor? yes. But because the rules are national there are plenty of year old turbos and parts that you can use to be pretty close to the top running guys and maybe win if you get the other factors correct.

Re: Huge NTPA announcement! April 27, 2021 08:01AM
Yeah right.... let's ask Mike Robbins & others in that 510 class how far year old leftover parts will get you. It's like any other class, it will get you mid pack at best. Those classes are just like super farm, 4.1, & even light limited super stocks, someone comes out with a new charger every year that makes 50 more horse on the dynamic so everyone that wants to win goes & spends thousands of dollars to get the latest & greatest or else they are running for 2nd place. And that 100k hot farm in NC has been put on the trailer by tractors with a lot less in them....

Re: Huge NTPA announcement! April 27, 2021 08:03AM
Dyno* not dynamic. Auto correct wins again...

Re: Huge NTPA announcement! April 27, 2021 10:20AM
So what is the difference of opinions here. Is it a CTTP VS UPOC thing ?

Re: Huge NTPA announcement! April 28, 2021 01:43PM
None whatsoever, I'm simply using the hot farm/upoc situation as an example of the "control" NTPA will now have over the Florida pullers. They had something great going as an independent group, why mess it up with any national sanctioning body?

What is there to be gained? How much money will now be sent to Columbus from Florida that will never be returned in any way? How many pullers are now going to have to spend thousands of dollars to rebuild their vehicles due to rule changes? How many will sell out & quit? How much will the cost to promoters increase? How many promoters will drop out once they see the bottom line on price? How many fans will stay home when the admission price increases? I get the fact that the dedicated pulling fan will understand that it upgraded from a non-sanctioned pull to an NTPA event & the gate price won't affect him at all, he knows what he's paying for. But how many general attendants will understand that & only see an increase in a night of entertainment & pursue other options? How many families & groups won't go when they realize their old buddy Ralph won't be there pulling with his small block mini rod?

Obviously some of these scenarios are completely hypothetical. (I don't know anyone named Ralph with a small block mini) But these are legitimate issues I have seen personally which face this sport as a whole.

PS, I am in no way affiliated with Carolina Pullers any longer.....

Re: Huge NTPA announcement! April 29, 2021 02:52AM
Lets worry more about the steak, and less about the peas.

This will give a larger selection of classes, to the promoter that will intern, draw more fans and sponsors to the state.

It will also extend, the winter(indoor) season, giving pullers a chance to combine a family vacation with their hobby.
