Diesel tach

Tach

May be a dumb question but I haven’t been able to find a good answer.
Is there a difference in a diesel tach vs a gas motor tach? Besides the price difference. |

Hope this helps

Diesel tach typically works with magnetic pulse type sensors. Spark plug tachs, typically use ignition pulse signals from msd or other ignition devices. |

Thanks. I’m just wondering if you can make it work or there’s
No way to make it work |

You can certainly use a magnet pickup senor (usually a Hall effect) on a spark ignited engine. The advantage is that In addition to sensing RPM they can determine crank angle as well. |

There is a company out there that has a box that can adapt a mag pickup single into a signal a gas tach can use. |
