dt466 vs 40 series detroit

can someone tell me the difference between the too. from what someone told me he thought you can bolt a dt head right on the 40? is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same. fly wheel bolt pattern the same? ect. thanks in advance |

Totaly deferent besides why would u want to swap heads just use the head thats on it or go 466 |

Detroit and ih are very similar. Heads will interchange and have same platform except the intake manifold. Injectors have a different return line setup, routing towards outside of head. Main bearings are larger on the Detroit. Most of them in agco tractors had sae bellhousings on them and I believe were same pattern as ih on the rear of the block. If going in a allis wipe out makes a aluminum adapter plate for them. |

From what I know (which is very little) it can be and has been done. Who can/should do it and cost effectiveness is unknown. Someone may share their knowledge on here. Good luck with the build, if you go that route. |

thanks for all the info guys. from what i gather the bellhousing ect is different. i hate to say it but the dt466 is the easy put in my ac 190 compared to the 426 head issues and finding a detroit thanks |
