There are a few 4.1s and pro stocks that this will affect. What about engine placement? Can Engine be lowered so crank and pinion are on same level in classes required to run ag chassis and still be NTPA legal? |

The engine may be lowered on an ag chassis tractor.
To the AXLE centerline. If the pinion is on same centerline as the axle, it is fine. |

The new rule will NOT eliminate center mounted injector pumps.
If someone with a center mounted injector pump builds 24 1/32" long injector lines, they are LEGAL. IF they wanted to make center mounted injector pumps illegal, this rule does NOT address that at all. |

I do wonder, on the center mounted injector pumps, do the driveline have to conform to mod tractor/2wd driveline shield rules, or can they use loops and u-joint covers like 4wd.
And do they need teathers? |

I don't understand the urgency of this- why it has to be implemented mid season? It's not an apparent safety issue. There are likely some benefits to shorter lines, but as mentioned in other posts we are talking about the ragged edge here- the advantage might be real, but it's tiny in the grand scheme of things. I can't imagine that someone is running away with a class somewhere this summer because they have 20" fuel lines and everyone else says they will just stay home because they can't complete with that. And now they are changing it already ("...except heavy pro stock...") which suggests that not only did someone decide this needed to take effect mid season, but it was thrown together with such haste that they couldn't even consult all the classes affected to ensure it made sense? |

By putting a long “driveshaft” on and moving the pump to the center of the motor, you can shorten the injection lines drastically. Shortening the injection lines allows for less “mush” not sure what else to call it, if the lines and fuel when the injection pump begins it’s injection cycle. When the pump starts the cycle, the high pressure can cause the fuel lines to flex and bulge on a microscopic level, but it still causes a lag in to start of the injection cycle. Less lag=more consistent & crisper injection cycle. It’s like adding timing without the risk of burning a motor down.
The only ones I know of are on big block deeres, there very well could be ones for small blocks and IH motors, but I haven’t heard of one yet. As said above, all this will do is make the guys that have this on put on 24 1/8 inch lines. Maybe that’s enough to take away enough of the benefit to where it makes the pump drive less of a big deal. The drive system is one large piece, all solid. I don’t see as to why they would think this is illegal, or why if they think it is, they don’t just address the issue head on. Off topic, but as far as the moving the motor in an ag chassis…the motor must be in factory location to the rear axle, and bolted up using factory flanges, and use all factory housings. If you let a person move a motor in an ag chassis, that is no longer an ag chassis, that is a cast rear ended component. And why in gods name would anybody spend the money to basically build a component and still be stuck with 50 year old outdated cast. |

Here is the updated rule change.
The following rule goes into effect Aug 10, 2022: New rule added to the 2022 NTPA rulebook (general rules) pg 27 letter G under engines, a new #7 which reads: Diesel fuel injection lines must be a minimum of 24 inches in length from the injection pump to the injector. This applies to all classes with a diesel engine. Note: The Heavy Pro Stock class, V-8 engines and high pressure common rail systems including electronic fuel injection are exempt of this rule. Both NTPA website and Facebook now say heavy PS is exempt from the rule change. |
