I don't know for sure, I would guess around 200-250, but they can hold big numbers if you modify them. There are guys in ORVTPA that have around 1000 ponies running through the 560 rear, but they have them modified. Remember they had problems with them on the farm with factory HP. They will hold up great with a little modification. I do know a guy that has a NA 466 truck motor with a regrind to the cam and a reworked inline M&W pump. I would assume it is at least 100-125 hp and it is mated to a stock 560 rear & tranny. It has held up fine, but it is a slow, lower rpm class. He just had to use a backplate and pressure plate from a 966, and the flywheel from the 560. He did have to make a spacer to get it all to go together. |

What all did you have to do to make it handle that? Special parts? Really wanna bild one but curious to know what all needs to be done first to handle 800 hp. Thanks |

remember when randy reetz's deeply hooked 3088 tractor was one of the top dog's in lss bout 6 to 7 years that was a 560. cant imagine how much power he was putting through it then. If your 560 is stock and has the updated rearend (by updated rearend i mean there should be a triangle stamped on your serial tag from when IH did the updates to those tractors in the mid to early 60's after the problems they encountered) it should handle a quite a bit of power but how much are you talking without some serious rearend work. Remember it is only a M rearend! |

If anybody would know it would be Jeff S. You should really try and talk to him in person or the phone or something. Not sure, but if he is who I think he is then he is Larry Phillips' chief mechanic! |

The question is a little tough to answer, as the question should be "how much tourque can the rearend handle?". Horsepower is the result of tourque * rpm, and it's the tourque that breaks stuff, not the rpms (they can cause trouble, too but different ones).
So, the more rpm you put through it with the same tourque, the more "horsepower" it can transfer. The size of the tires and the weight class (resulting in rpms on the wheels) would be two very critical points to address to answer how much horsepower can be put through. That's also the reason why it may be able to transfer over 1000 hp in a light tractor pulling with a high rpm engine running a fast gear, while it may struggle to transfer 100 hp in a heavy stock tractor in low gear. sacha's right. rite me if im wrong but i think deeply hooked had a triple 6 rearend and so did down and dirty. they held up alright butt needed bull pinions replaced about once a year. the 460 rearend evolved into 666 rear ,and the SMTA & 560 evolved into.706 rear . and yes the llss class putts more stress on rearend parts than the lss class did. all the better reason to keep it light or take it back to 5800ibs |

the SMTA and 560 rearend have nothing to do with the 706. Look at them they are totally different. Drum brakes vs. hydraulic brakes should be a dead giveaway |

The sipes's run a 560 and I am currently building a 560 for the LLSS class. They are much strong the 666 or the 460 rearend. Jeff could really answer about any question you have about that rear end. |

The 460 rear end is the weakest of the bunch, but there are pullers but over a 1000 hp thru them, with much internal mods, billet parts and lots of bracing. I've had a 460 and a 560 case empty next to each other in my pickup bed, and the size difference is significant, looked like with a little prying and a sledge hammer, you could put the 460 inside the 560---for the size and weight, and even when compared to a stock 706 housing, the 560 housing looks plenty strong in wall and webbing strength, for most single charger applications. All those need needle bearings, before use in a hi hp puller, and the 460 needs a sustantial alum or steel top plate to stop the box from flexing, a friend locally is currently running an 1.25 in alum plate on a llss 460 rear that has been trouble free for 18 months or so----but keeping fingers crossed!!! |

the way they evolved was m,super m,super mta,400,450,560,656,666,686.the 460 eveolved into a 606.560 and m's have a different ratio differential.560 has a 3.26,m has 2.63.lots of guys here are running m rearends in the v-8 classes,6500lbs 18.4-38 tires, about 400-450 horses from a small block chevrolet.they run the m transmission in 3rd behind a 3 speed automatic.i know of one tractor thats been built for about 15 years and no problems yet with all stock ih transmission parts.i am in the proscess of building a llss from a 450 rearend.going to put a 466 in it.our rules say 466,p pump,3x3 charger.other than needeling the spider gears,i'm just going to run the rearend pretty much stock and address the problems as they arise.anybody with some advice, feel free to jump in.thanks everybody |

You should contact the Dibbles, they run an MTA rear with lots of ponies! Those rules sound a little more like pro farm/field than LLSS, but I guess your club voted and decided that was best. You all gonna allow alky. Opening the turbo up to 3x4 is a bit more expensive, but way more fun!!!! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/05/2009 04:47PM by llssmoline. |

Yes they are allowing alky, but limiting alky cubes to 370.diesels less than 370 can run 2 chargers.i told you wrong on the 466 turbo,it is a 3x4 instead of 3x3.no slots or enhancement ring.tires for this class is 30.5 weight is 6500 with 200lbs moveable weight. |

There were major problems with the 560 and that was at 55 hp at the drawbar! How can it be trusted to handle 100's, even with minor tweaks? |
